The grade book in itslearning has the same functions as the old-fashioned paper grade book. Managing the grades of an entire class in itslearning makes the grading process easier, and the teachers have a clearly-set-out overview when the final assessment is to be decided.
You have one grade book for each course into which course participants are automatically added. The grade book contains assignments and tests from the course, as well as manually-created assessments, for example, oral exams and lab work.
Found under Status and follow-up in the course navigation tree, the grade book is visible for teachers, students and parents (if the parent dashboard is enabled). If there is no link to the grade book from this overview, you can enable it from Settings (see How-tos).
Made to fit in a wide range of education systems and assessment practices, the grade book is highly customisable. Before starting to use the grade book, you should spend some time looking at the grade book settings found in the top right corner of the grade book (these settings are also available from Settings (in the navigation tree) >> Assessment settings). Not all settings may be relevant to you, so disable the features you don’t need. This will keep the grade book simple and tidy.
The assessment setting page has three tabs:
When using scores for assessment, teachers now have the opportunity to reward students by giving a higher score than the maximum score specified. The amount above the maximum is taken into account in the calculation of averages.
A teacher can decide to drop an assessment for a student (that is, eliminate its effect) by exercising the exemption option. An assessment covered by the exemption will not be part of the calculation of averages; it is represented by a strike-out mark through the assessment or, if the assessment has not yet been carried out, the designation 'EX'.
Beta function
The assessment-summary feature is currently being tested by selected customers and is not yet available to all customers.
Students can access the grade book for a specific course from Status and follow-up >>Grade book or all assessments from all courses from their profile by clicking their name in the top right corner of itslearning.
Assessments can be sorted by title, category or deadline. When categories are used, each category is listed as a sections that can be open and closed by clicking the arrow placed in the middle of the category heading bar.
